    David is a kid

We were on a trip down to Dave’s Casting Co a couple years ago and remember hitting up a liquor store with Dave down the block. Seeing Dave in a corner store is a lot like observing a kid at play.

    It goes like this:
    1. Dave steps in the store
    2. Dave dips into the ice cream freezer
    3. Dave hits the magazine stand, grabs a porn mag
    4. Dave walks down the street, eating ice cream and checking out the porn mag

We have to let you know that the sight of him walking down the street with a grin on his face, ice cream in one hand and porn mag in the other is awesome.

What we did not get then but now know is that Dave is a kid at play. He has a raw enthusiasm for life that most of us lost years ago. This kid at heart is evident by his combined excessive use of the words, “RAD” and “That Rules”. He really lives life freely and loves what he does.

Dave prides himself in telling you tall tales of why the latest show he went to is the greatest ever. And he always lets you know that you “suck” because you missed it.

  • David put CASTING on the map

Yes, of course we know the history of sand casting is long and many have come before. Uncle Ray sand casted belt buckles out the back yard in the 70’s - we get that. But what we’re talking about is casting as we now know it. When you think casting now, Dave comes to mind period. Over the years we have heard a lot of people talking about Dave and his casting. These days its about the remix and Dave has the mix right. He has shown his skill in making points covers, pegs, air cleaners, and don’t forget that ridiculous and over the top sand cast tank for the xwedge he did for S&S.

  • Chopper Dave Profile Video

  • David made up this WEB game long ago

Dave is a perfect person to profile as a Hopper mag online feature because he is the dude that started this all. Long before twitter and way, way before you had DSL, Dave had a website. He has been on the web longer than anyone on the scene period.

There is no one that has put in the same amount of time and effort to profess their love for all things bobber, chopper and art. Years before we finally had the chance to meet Dave, we learned our lessons from his site. For this alone Dave should get a webby award.

  • David is a photographer

Theres one thing we have been witness to and its Dave’s evolution as a photographer. He has been quickly gaining the skills and look that will soon define him as an artist. He already commands so much respect from most guys shooting. Dave’s pics have a great look. At there essence you can see his love and childish fervor for something cool and new.

As the months go by and his fearless attitude transfer from his riding to his shooting, dave will continue to define his look. We can’t wait until he gets his hands on a video camera too. Combined with his artistic eye, we will be seeing plenty more great things to come out of the mind of David Freston. Even his name has a gallery show ring to it!

  • David is not a civilian

This should be the part of the feature where we have an endless list of snappy, smart Q&A with Mr. Chopper Dave -- that was the plan at least. Instead, we went to Disneyland and took some riding shots. We got the sickest outlaw riding pictures ever as evident by the no handers and blatant abuse of helmet laws.

Dave is not a civilian and what better place to illustrate this than Disneyland. It is an amazing juxtapose to see Dave walking through the masses at Disneyland. We felt like we were hanging with a rockstar with all the looks he was getting; people from all around were busy sizing him up.

  • As a bonus, we were kept entertained in lines as Dave would shuffle though his phone constantly to pull up pics of hot chicks -- this dude really digs the hot and sexy.

His confidence is bigger than his baggy shorts. We all wish that we had the confidence to have HOLD FAST tatted across our knuckles. But that is a label only Dave can live up to.

See Dave is pulling off what we all dream of, doing exactly what he thinks is cool and living it to the fullest. Dave rides like a bat out of hell; his screaming lane splitting is enough to leave anyone in awe. Dave doesn’t have to pull out an outfit to go anywhere because he comes ready to ride and ready to live. This might sound all a little overblown, but it illustrates the point of his realness perfectly.

  • David is a FUTURE LEGEND

We tossed around a bunch of names here at the Hopper office for this feature: at first we thought Forced Me to Hug -- but after we stopped laughing, the word LEGEND came to mind. And for some reason Future Legend rang more true when we talked about David Freston AKA Chopper Dave. People love his bikes and attitude. We settled on the more subdued title “Profile”, but still think Future Legend describes Dave perfectly.

In the end Chopper Dave will be the guy that the kids will be talking about. The one that helped define this chopper game. A lot of guys never got their due respect, never got their name out there. Dave will probably kill us when he reads what we put down in this feature, but we don’t care.

We have an immense respect for the artist, photographer, chopper builder, craftsman and businessman that David Freston is. Dave will in the end pull the ultimate coup in the motorcycle industry, and we at Hopper give 100% support to the man.

    Go Dave Go.
